Formed as an arms-length, independent organisation from PATA, the Foundation was designed to promote environmental and cultural heritage preservation within Asia Pacific. Since the formation in 1984, we have contributed over

US$ 1.3M

to 132 development projects and 144 scholarships and sponsorships in 40+ communities across 38 destinations.

The PATA Foundation empowers Asia Pacific's most vulnerable youth through supporting education, skills development and capacity building projects and economic, social and environmental initiatives which help foster the sustainable and equitable growth of the travel and tourism industry.

We're working to ensure that young people have the employability skills needed to build sustainable and thriving careers in tourism and hospitality – through work in three fields–

Education, Cultural Heritage, Sustainable Tourism.

For those struggling to lift themselves out of poverty, tourism and hospitality still offer a realistic path.

There are 300 million unemployed youth in the region. But, because of limited access to education opportunities many lack basic employment skills.

We are investing in capacity, providing critical employability skills to optimise potential and motivate youth for success. Read more

“Those of us involved with travel and tourism understand the vitally important and wide-ranging benefits – both economic and social – that these activities provide for Pacific area countries. We are also convinced of the great potential to expand those benefits significantly through educational programs and activities designed to enhance the scope and quality of tourism.”

– George Howling, First PATA Foundation Chairman (1984 - 1991)
