Grant 2009 – Responsible Trekking for Waste Management in Tamang Heritage Trail, Nepal

The Tamang Heritage Trail is the newly promoted destination developed by Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation and promoted by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) for the cultural heritage of the ethnic Tamangs community.  Every year the region has seen increased tourists flow giving locals opportunities to adopt tourism to support their livelihoods.  But with increased tourist flow of threat of loss of the cultural heritage of the region has significantly doubled.  Many of locals lack skills and knowledge about these impacts and waste management which are associated with tourism.

Initiated by Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP), PATA Foundation extends our support to conduct three day training on Hospitality, Waste Management and Value of Heritage in Tamang Heritage Trails to local communities engaging in tourism.
