This year the PATA Foundation is moving into its third year of support for te Vietnam Community Partnership Project in the Sapa region of Northern Vietnam. The aim of the project is to develop sustainable tourism and help retain the unique culture of the minority people in the village of Ta Phin and Lao Chai.
All those touched by the project have been changed for the better. The local villagers are providing genuinely authentic tourism product and all stakeholders are working together toward common goals of mutual benefit.
While the goal of the project was building capacity of the local people and improving the visitor experience, another enormously important outcome was the positive impact on the next generation of tourism professionals involved in the project from the universities operating it: Capilano University (CapU), Vancouver, Canada, and Hanoi Open University (HOU), Vietnam.
